|
فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَـٰفِعِينَ |
100 “So now we have no intercessors, |
|
|
وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ |
101 “Nor sincere loyal friend. |
|
|
فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ |
102 “Would that we might return and be among the believers!”1 |
|
|
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ |
103 In that is a proof,1 but most of them are not believers.2 |
|
|
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ |
104 And thy Lord: He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. |
|
|
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ |
105 The people of Noah denied the emissaries |
|
|
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ |
106 When their brother Noah said to them: “Will you not be in prudent fear?1 |
|
|
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ |
107 “I am to you a trustworthy messenger, |
|
|
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ |
||
|
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ |
109 “And I ask of you for it no reward; my reward is only upon1 the Lord of All Creation; |
|
|
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ |
||
|
قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَٱتَّبَعَكَ ٱلْأَرْذَلُونَ |
111 They said: “Are we to believe thee when the abject follow thee?” |
|
|
قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِى بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ |
112 He said: “And what knowledge have I of what they did? |
|
|
إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّى لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ |
113 “Their reckoning is only upon1 my Lord, were you to perceive. |
|
|
وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِطَارِدِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ |
114 “And I am not one to drive away the believers.1 |
|
|
إِنْ أَنَا۠ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ |
115 “I am only a clear warner.” |
|
|
قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَـٰنُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمَرْجُومِينَ |
116 They said: “If thou cease not, O Noah, thou wilt be of those stoned.” |
|
|
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِى كَذَّبُونِ |
117 He said: “My Lord: my people have denied me, |
|
|
فَٱفْتَحْ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحًا وَنَجِّنِى وَمَن مَّعِىَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ |
118 “So decide Thou between me and them,1 and deliver Thou me and those with me among the believers.”2 |
|
|
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ |
119 So We delivered him and those with him in the laden ship. |
|
|
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا بَعْدُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ |
120 Then We drowned thereafter those remaining. |
|
|
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ |
121 In that is a proof,1 but most of them are not believers.2 |
|
|
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ |
122 And thy Lord: He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. |
|
|
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ |
123 ʿĀd denied the emissaries |
|
|
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ |
124 When their brother Hūd said to them: “Will you not be in prudent fear?1 |
|
|
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ |
125 “I am to you a trustworthy messenger, |
|
|
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ |
||
|
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ |
127 “And I ask of you for it no reward; my reward is only upon1 the Lord of All Creation. |
|
|
أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ ءَايَةً تَعْبَثُونَ |
128 “Build you a proof1 on every prominence, amusing yourselves2 |
|
|
وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ |
129 “And take you constructions, that you might abide eternally, |
|
|
وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ |
130 “And when you lay hold, lay you hold as tyrants?1 |
|
|
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ |
||
|
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ |
132 “And be in prudent fear1 of Him who has supplied you with what you know: |
|
|
أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنْعَـٰمٍ وَبَنِينَ |
133 “Supplied you with cattle and sons, |
|
|
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ |
134 “And gardens and springs. |
|
|
إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ |
135 “I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day.” |
|
|
قَالُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْنَآ أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْوَٰعِظِينَ |
136 They said: “It is the same to us whether thou admonishest, or be not of the admonishers. |
|
|
إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا خُلُقُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ |
137 “This is only the tradition1 of the former peoples, |
|
|
وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ |
138 “And we are not to be punished.” |
|
|
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ |
139 And they denied him,1 then We destroyed them. In that is a proof,2 but most of them are not believers.3 |
|
|
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ |
140 And thy Lord: He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. |
|
|
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ |
141 Thamūd denied the emissaries |
|
|
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَـٰلِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ |
142 When their brother Ṣāliḥ said to them: “Will you not be in prudent fear?1 |
|
|
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ |
143 “I am to you a trustworthy messenger, |
|
|
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّـهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ |
||
|
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ |
145 “And I ask of you for it no reward; my reward is only upon1 the Lord of All Creation. |
|
|
أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِى مَا هَـٰهُنَآ ءَامِنِينَ |
146 “Are you to be left secure in what is here, |
|
|
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ |
147 “Among gardens and springs, |
|
|
وَزُرُوعٍ وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ |
148 “And tilled fields, and date-palms with slender spathes, |
|
|
وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَـٰرِهِينَ |
149 “And to hew out houses from the mountains skilfully?1 |
|
